Dentist talked about the impact of stress on dental health
Chronic stress causes serious harm not only to the nervous system, but also to the condition of the oral cavity, including teeth and bite. On April 9, Victoria Karatayeva, the chief dentist of All Yours Dentistry, spoke about the systemic effect of psycho-emotional stress.
The specialist noted that a dentist often becomes the first doctor to notice signs of stress in a patient. These include chipped teeth, hypersensitivity, dry mouth, and jaw clicks. According to Karatayeva, saliva deficiency deprives the oral cavity of natural protection.
"When there is less saliva, the oral cavity is less protected, bacteria multiply more actively, acids have a stronger effect on the enamel, and as a result, the risk of caries, inflammation of the mucous membrane, gingivitis and stomatitis increases," the expert explained in an interview with the newspaper.Ru».
Another common problem is bruxism, an involuntary strong clenching of the jaws or gnashing of teeth in a dream, Karatayeva noted. Without the timely use of special protective caps, overload occurs, leading to rapid tooth abrasion, cracks and damage to fillings. According to her, in severe cases, pathology can lead to a change in the configuration of the face and exposure of the roots of the teeth due to gum loss.
The constant tension of the chewing muscles is often disguised as other ailments. Karatayeva pointed out that pain in the temples, headaches and difficulty opening the mouth may be associated not with migraines, but with an overload of the temporomandibular joint and malocclusion. An additional threat is created by nervous habits, such as the habit of biting pens or nails, which injures the enamel.
Individual consultation is necessary to solve the problem. Depending on the severity of the consequences, the doctor prescribes a set of hygienic procedures, remineralizing support, replacement of fillings or load correction by an orthodontist, the expert concluded.
Orthodontist Andrey Zhuk spoke on April 5 about ways to preserve teeth and avoid installing veneers. The expert emphasized that orthodontic treatment requires an individual approach and strategic planning. The doctor must take into account the characteristics of the patient's body in order to achieve a safe and sustainable result.
