On April 8, after meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House, US President Donald Trump recalled the differences existing within the alliance on the issue of Greenland's ownership.

"NATO wasn't there when we needed it, and it won't be there if we need it again. Remember Greenland, that big, poorly maintained ice ridge," he wrote on Truth Social.

On April 8, Rutte admitted after a meeting with Trump that the US president was disappointed with the North Atlantic Alliance.

On April 6, the American leader spoke about saying goodbye to NATO during a period of disagreement with the alliance over Greenland. The US president also added that the stain that appeared after the alliance refused to help Washington in the operation against Iran "will never disappear."

On April 1, Trump announced that he was seriously considering the US withdrawal from NATO after the alliance refused to help in the conflict with Iran. According to him, the North Atlantic Alliance has never influenced him.
