Fraudsters have begun testing a new scheme of deception on behalf of medical organizations. Experts from the Smart Business Alert (SBA) service of the ESA PRO company (part of the Cross Technologies Group of Companies) told about this on Wednesday, April 8.

Experts warned in an interview with Lenta.Ru A typical scheme is as follows: the victim receives an email with a link to a phishing resource that mimics the real website of a medical institution. The message asks, for example, to make an appointment with a doctor or to undergo a medical examination.

The main purpose of scammers is to collect data for further attacks. Then the scheme most often develops according to the standard scenario: the victim receives a call demanding to give the code from the SMS, ostensibly to confirm the appointment with the doctor. And after that, a "law enforcement officer" calls, who begins to threaten because of the previous transfer of the code to fraudsters, according to the website. kp.ru .

Experts noted that the target audience of the scheme with medical organizations is primarily the elderly, who often visit polyclinics or hospitals, and are also particularly susceptible to the topic of health.

Earlier in the day, Sergey Kalinin, first deputy head of the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Russian Interior Ministry, said that more than 100,000 Russian teenagers were involved in schemes to lease accounts in the Telegram messenger, which were then used by fraudulent call centers, RT reports.

Ilya Zuev, Vice President for Information Security at MTS Bank, announced on March 25 that hackers had begun actively using bots to attack Russians, creating bot farms and using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to test all functions of banking applications around the clock in search of logic errors. According to him, fraudsters buy thousands of SIM cards for this purpose.
