Ukraine has not yet received the F-16 fighter jets promised by Norway back in 2023. This was reported on April 8 by the Norwegian TV channel NRK, citing sources.

"Of the six F-16s that Norway has promised to transfer to Ukraine, none has yet been put into service," the publication says.

According to the TV channel, the Ukrainian side needs Norwegian planes because it is "at a critical stage of the conflict."

It is specified that two of the six aircraft were previously used to train Ukrainian pilots in Denmark, but now they have been in a workshop in Belgium for over a year.

Four other F-16 fighter jets were not usable because they were shipped in boxes in disassembled form. They are currently in a workshop in Belgium.

Russian military analyst Alexei Leonkov reported on February 18 that there is a shortage of qualified pilots in Ukraine to fly F-16 fighter jets and foreign mercenaries are forced to take the controls of Western aircraft. He noted that the so-called Soviet legacy from Eastern European countries has been practically exhausted, and the Russian air defense system and aviation have significantly reduced the ranks of the Ukrainian Air Force (VVS).
