Russia's self-sufficiency in fish products in 2025 reached 123%. This was announced on April 8 by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev at an expanded meeting of the Board of the Federal Fisheries Agency in Moscow.

The Deputy Prime Minister defined the vector of development of the Russian fisheries complex. The participants discussed the results of the complex's work in 2025 and identified priorities for 2026. The Russian fishing industry has demonstrated stable results and is one of the top five countries in terms of production of aquatic biological resources. Last year, the catch was 4.7 million tons. At the same time, pollock production exceeded 2 million tons for the first time in 25 years, and salmon catch increased by 40%.

The board focused on the financial performance of the industry, the volume of extraction of aquatic biological resources, the export and import of fish products, measures to support fishing, the development of aquaculture and saturation of the domestic market.

"Last year, the extraction of aquatic biological resources and other production processes in the industry were carried out normally. As a result, our self-sufficiency in fish and fish products has almost reached 123%. What is very important, the financial indicators of the organizations of the fisheries complex have maintained a positive trend. Thus, the turnover has updated the maximum value and exceeded 1 trillion 200 billion rubles. And the profit increased by 50%, to 206 billion rubles. The supply of fish products abroad continued to develop. Their volume in 2025 exceeded 2 million tons, due to which export revenue increased by almost 20%. Despite everything, domestic fish products end up on the shelves of more than 100 countries around the world. This once again confirms the status of the Russian Federation as a reliable trading partner. The key task of the industry in the future is to further increase the catch. The Government allocates significant funding for the development of fisheries science. Last year, the volume reached 8 billion rubles. A comparable amount is planned for 2026. I would like to note that the Rosrybolovstvo scientific research fleet is being updated with the support of the state. In 2025, the VNIRO flotilla was replenished with the Vikenty Zaitsev vessel, which will explore opportunities to restore the Baikal omul fishing stocks. We expect that by the end of 2028, two more new vessels will be launched for research work in the World's oceans," Patrushev stressed.

On February 4, the Association of Pollock Miners (ADM) informed Izvestia that in 2025, Russian fishermen supplied a record 271 thousand tons of pollock products to the domestic market. This is 7% more than in the previous year. According to ADM, the largest increase in supplies last year was demonstrated by the most popular types of products among Russian consumers: frozen pollock — 188 thousand tons (+6%) and pollock fillets — over 55 thousand tons (+20%). Supplies of minced meat and pollock surimi (a total of 30 thousand tons) are kept at a high level.
