- Zakharova reported on the work of the UN structures "on the methodology" in relation to Iran
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on April 8 that the United Nations (UN) structures adhere to biased approaches, assessing the consequences of the situation around Iran and ignoring the actions of the United States and Israel.
During the briefing, she noted that reports from organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP) provide extremely harsh forecasts for markets, but do not mention the true causes of the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. The diplomat stressed that international organizations are glossing over the unprovoked aggression against Iran and Tehran's legitimate right to self-defense.
"None of the organizations listed above mentions the root causes of the situation around the Strait of Hormuz <...>. The UN is once again acting according to the guidelines. This is probably why the world organization's experts' assessments of what is happening on the food markets are generally restraining," Zakharova said.
However, she added that the reports still show clear trends and there is no attempt to hide the consequences of the "adventures" of the United States and Israel in the region.
Earlier in the day, Zakharova responded to the words of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres about attacks on Iranian civilians. The diplomat called Guterres' statement his "revelation at the end of his career."
On April 2, Guterres said that the world is on the verge of a larger-scale war in the Middle East, and, based on this, he again called on the United States and Israel to stop their operation against Iran. He noted that the observed escalation has already had devastating economic consequences. In his address, he also called on Iran to stop "attacking its neighbors," as the conflict in which this is happening is already "felt everywhere."
