There have been 213 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 213 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 24 people were killed and 238 injured. 13 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on April 8 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
As a result of 80 accidents, 34 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 46 outside their area of operation, 11 pedestrians were killed, and 72 more road users in this category were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 14 underage pedestrians, eight of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in designated areas.
In Omsk, in the evening, a 46-year-old minivan driver ran into two pedestrians aged 60 and 42 years old who were crossing the roadway outside a pedestrian crossing when passing through a controlled intersection at a traffic light. At the same time, the regulated pedestrian crossing is located at a distance of 10 meters from the scene of the accident. Pedestrians were injured and ended up in the hospital.
13 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which there were no fatalities, but 20 road users, including four children, needed medical help. 10 bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by drivers of other vehicles. There were also 27 accidents involving minors, in which there were no dead children, but 28 young road users were injured, including two motor vehicle drivers and five passengers.
So, in one of the rural settlements of the Krasnodar Territory, a 34-year-old car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with another passenger car. As a result of the accident, the 43-year-old driver of an oncoming car and his 13-year-old passenger were injured and hospitalized with injuries. The perpetrator of the collision was injured and, after receiving medical treatment, was sent for outpatient treatment.
The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful on the roads of towns and cities, especially in the morning and evening. Drivers were advised not to overestimate their strength and their skills, to abandon risky driving, exceeding the speed limit, to refrain from sudden reckless maneuvers and changes of lanes, overtaking and driving into oncoming traffic — even in the permitted places. Driving skills, driving experience, well-being, and law-abiding driving behavior depend not only on the life and health of the driver himself, but also on the lives and health of other road users.
"Drivers should take special care when approaching intersections and pedestrian crossings. We recommend that you do not rush to "skip" them as quickly as possible, but, on the contrary, slow down to the minimum speed in advance in order to stop the vehicle for pedestrians to pass. Never rush to start driving even when the traffic light allows you to do so — first make sure that the crossing in front of you is completely free of foot traffic," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In addition, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminded pedestrians that they should cross the road at pedestrian crossings, including underground or aboveground ones, and in their absence — at intersections along sidewalks or roadsides. If there is no crossing or intersection in the visible area, it is allowed to cross the road at right angles to the edge of the carriageway in areas without dividing lanes and fences where it is clearly visible in both directions. In places where traffic is regulated, pedestrians should be guided by traffic signals or pedestrian traffic lights, and in the absence of traffic lights — traffic lights.
The day before, it was reported that by the end of January-February 2026, the number of accidents involving victims on Russian roads decreased by 8.2% compared to the same period last year. According to the Russian Interior Ministry, the number of people killed in road accidents during this period decreased by 13.2%, and the number of injured citizens decreased by 6.3%.
