On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced an agreement to suspend strikes on Iran for two weeks. In response, the Iranian authorities put forward conditions for a cease-fire, including the lifting of sanctions and the withdrawal of American troops from the region. Iran also announced the restoration of passage through the Strait of Hormuz. All the details are in the Izvestia article.

Trump's statements

The American leader said he was ready to suspend strikes on Iranian territory. According to him, this truce will be bilateral. He also noted that the United States has already "fulfilled and exceeded" all the assigned military tasks, and has also made great progress in achieving long-term peace with the Islamic Republic.

"[Pakistan] has asked me to postpone the destructive force being sent to Iran tonight, and on condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to the full, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for a period of two weeks," he wrote on his Truth Social network page.

In addition, the US president added that he had received a 10-point proposal from Tehran, which is an "acceptable basis" for negotiations.

Iran's position

The Iranian Tasnim news agency published a statement from Iran's Supreme National Security Council outlining Iran's conditions for a cease-fire and negotiations.

"Iran forced criminal America to adopt its 10—point plan, in which the United States committed itself in principle: not to attack, maintain Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, accept uranium enrichment, and lift all primary and secondary sanctions," the agency said in a statement.

In addition, according to the 10-point plan, the United States pledged to guarantee non-aggression against Iran, terminate all resolutions of the UN Security Council and the IAEA Board of Governors, pay compensation to Iran, withdraw American combat forces from the region, and end the war on all fronts, including against the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon.

In addition, the Supreme National Security Council of Iran stated that the Islamic Republic had won the conflict with the United States, insisting on Washington's acceptance of Tehran's settlement plan. The Iranian Security Council stressed that the republic's military had attacked the facilities of the United States, "which will forever remain in the memory of the whole world."

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be secured within two weeks. According to the head of the Foreign Ministry, if this condition is met, safe vessel traffic will be restored in the Strait, taking into account technical restrictions.

Negotiations between Iran and the United States on a peace agreement

The SNN TV channel, referring to the order of the Supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, reported that negotiations between the Iranian and American sides to work out the terms of a peace agreement will be held in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

As indicated by the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, the talks will be held on Friday, April 10. Despite this, the council noted that "this does not mean the end of the war," and the meetings themselves will be held "with complete distrust of the American side."

"Iran will allocate two weeks for these negotiations. This time may be extended by agreement of the parties," the statement says.
