Nebenzia declared Russia's desire for peace in the Middle East
Russia stands for the early restoration of peace and the cessation of hostilities in the Middle East, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations (UN) Vasily Nebenzia said on April 7.
"Russia has made and continues to make efforts, including at the highest level, to end [the conflict]. We strive to establish peace in the Persian Gulf and the Middle East as soon as possible," the senior diplomat said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in the region.
He stressed that Russia condemns the aggression of the United States and Israel against Iran, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states in the region.
"On the territory of the country (Iran. — Ed.) a huge number of civilians are dying," Nebenzia said.
US President Donald Trump said on April 6 that the conflict with Iran could end very quickly if Tehran fulfills the necessary conditions. He also called Tuesday, April 7, the last deadline for ending the war. The US president added that the main goal is to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Also on April 7, Trump allowed the death of "an entire civilization" with his promised strikes on the territory of Iran. The New York Times reported that Iran, with the mediation of Pakistan, handed over to the United States a 10-point peace agreement.
