Returning grades for schoolchildren's behavior to the diaries will make contacts between participants in the educational process more objective and transparent and also guarantee support for the teacher, Sergey Kravtsov, head of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, said on April 7.

"The introduction of an objective assessment of student behavior will increase the transparency of interaction between participants in the educational process and support teachers. Systematic recording of specific facts of non—compliance with school requirements by students will reduce unfounded accusations against the teacher," Kravtsov is quoted as saying on the agency's website.

The Minister added that timely identification of deviations in the behavior of students will help to provide timely support to the student, as well as correct communication and learning difficulties.

When evaluating behavior, the following criteria will be taken into account: student's compliance with discipline (lateness, off-topic conversations, mobile phone use), social interaction, personal qualities, academic activity (readiness for lessons, homework, constructive feedback from the teacher and classmates), as well as active participation in school events and projects, including classes on "Talking about Important things," "Russia is my Horizons," and "Movement of the First" projects.

The day before, it was reported that the Russian Ministry of Education will test a system for assessing student behavior in the 2026/2027 academic year in 10 schools in each region. The rating will be three points: "exemplary", "acceptable" and "unacceptable". According to Olga Koludarova, Deputy Minister of Education, the testing is being completed in seven regions and has covered 89 schools. 78% of students, 73% of teachers and 87% of parents are positive about the introduction of the assessment.
