On April 7, the White House posted on its page on the social network X (ex. Twitter) published a photo taken by the crew of the Orion spacecraft during the Artemis II mission.

The presented frame captures the moment when the Earth goes beyond the lunar horizon. The published photo was officially named "Sunset of the Earth".

"Humanity is on the other side. The first photo is from the far side of the moon," the message says.

The picture almost completely repeats the composition of one of the most famous photographs in the history of cosmonautics — "Sunrise of the Earth". It was taken by astronaut William Anders in 1968 during a flyby of the Moon aboard the Apollo 8 spacecraft.

The Artemis II mission took off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on April 1. For the first time in half a century, humanity has sent astronauts to the moon again. It was noted that during the preparation of the launch, a malfunction in the communication system was found that could disrupt the flight.

On April 4, NASA announced that the four astronauts of the mission had traveled halfway from Earth to the Moon. It was clarified that Orion had covered a distance of more than 230 thousand km from Earth. After orbiting the Moon during the Artemis II mission, the Orion spacecraft is heading towards Earth.
