The Devil Wears Prada 2, the sequel to the 2006 cult comedy drama, will be released abroad on May 1. The final trailer for the film was released on April 6, and its Russian—language version was published by Evelina Khromchenko, a stylist and TV presenter who voiced Miranda Priestly in the first part. All the details about the new film are in the Izvestia material.

What was the first part about?

Lauren Weisberger's novel "The Devil Wears Prada" was published in 2003 and is based on the author's real—life experience as an assistant to the editor-in-chief of Vogue, Anna Wintour, although Weisberger publicly denied this. The film was released in 2006 and became a hit: it grossed over $326 million on a budget of $41 million, and Meryl Streep received an Oscar nomination for her role as Miranda Priestly.

The plot of the first part is simple and universal: young journalist Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) gets a job as a second assistant to the authoritarian editor—in-chief of Runway fashion magazine Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and gradually loses herself in the world of high fashion - for the sake of a career, outfits and the approval of a woman who is impossible to please. Next to her are Emily's first assistant (Emily Blunt) and cynical art director Nigel (Stanley Tucci), who has become Andy's only ally.

The film became a cultural phenomenon: it reinterpreted the image of the "toxic boss" in pop culture and set the standard for all subsequent stories about the fashion world in cinema. Since its release, the film has been reinterpreted several times, including from the perspective of what is now called a toxic work environment.

The first "The Devil Wears Prada" grossed $326.7 million worldwide on a budget of $41 million. The idea of a sequel has been discussed for years, but it didn't come to a real project until 2024. The Disney studio has officially announced the start of production, confirming the return of the original director and screenwriter. Filming began on June 30, 2025 and ended in October.

What will the second part be about?

The sequel's plot unfolds against the backdrop of the print media crisis. Miranda Priestly is still running Runway, but the magazine is losing ground, and she has to bow to her former assistant, Emily Charlton, now a high—ranking director of a luxury conglomerate whose advertising budgets Priestly badly needs.

Andy Sachs is returning to Runway as a section editor — she was hired to help the magazine deal with the scandal that caused the publication's stock prices to collapse. Moreover, as follows from the final trailer, Miranda is not involved in this assignment and bluntly makes it clear to Andy that she is only waiting for her to fail.

Miranda's new assistant is Simone Ashley's character, Amari, who meets Andy at the editorial office and escorts her to her new office. There is a characteristic moment in the trailer: Andy tells Amari that she once took her place, went to Paris Fashion Week and wore items from the Chanel collection of that year.

According to the description and trailers, "The Devil wears Prada 2" will be a completely original story, not tied to the text of the book sequel. Weisberger's novel "Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns," released in 2013, is set in a different context.: there, Andy and Emily become co-editors of a successful publication. The scriptwriters took only a general idea from the book — the reunion of former opponents in the face of a common enemy — and built their own story on top of it.

Composition: who returned and who joined

The main cast of the first film reunited in full: Meryl Streep plays Miranda Priestly again, Anne Hathaway plays Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt plays Emily Charlton, Stanley Tucci plays Nigel Kipling. Tracy Thoms also returned as Andy's girlfriend Lily and Tibor Feldman as the head of the publishing house, Irv Ravitz. This was a matter of principle for the producers: without all four main actors, the studio would not have started the project.

Kenneth Branagh will play Miranda Priestly's new husband, Justin Theroux will play Emily Charlton's husband, and Patrick Brammall will play Andy's new love interest. The absence of Adrian Grenier, who played the role of Andy's boyfriend Nate in the first film, was officially confirmed at the start of filming. Over the years, viewers' attitudes towards this character have changed markedly: today, many consider Nate selfish and unable to support his partner's career ambitions. The director and the studio, apparently, agreed with this interpretation — and gave Andy a new love line.

The extended cast includes Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet, B. J. Novak, Conrad Ricamora and Helen J. Sheng. Cameos in the film will be played by Lady Gaga, Ashley Graham, Sydney Sweeney and Rachel Bloom. Gaga shot her scenes in between concerts of the Mayhem Ball tour, partly at a venue in Milan. Filming took place in several locations: New York, Newark and Milan.

The director, as in the first part, was David Frankel, the script was written by Alyn Brosh McKenna — the same team that created the original 20 years ago. This solution reduces the risk: both have not only experience working with the material, but also an intuitive understanding of how these characters exist on the screen. The only question is whether this understanding has become too familiar over the past two decades.

Trailers: viewing records

The promotional campaign for the film became a separate event even before the release of the final video. The first teaser, released in November 2025, scored 181.5 million views in the first 24 hours. In it, Miranda Priestly in red stilettos walks down the hallway of the editorial office under Madonna "Vogue" — and enters the elevator, where Andy is waiting for her.

In February 2026, a full trailer was released showing the reunion of all four main characters — Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel. It scored 220 million views in the first 24 hours, an absolute record in the studio's history.

The final trailer from April 6 became the third major promotional material for the film. It has more plot, more dialogues and the main musical surprise. Box Office Pro analysts predict an opening weekend of $80-95 million.

Lady Gaga and Doechii: the song "Runway"

20th Century Studios has officially confirmed that Lady Gaga and Doechii recorded the song "Runway" together specifically for "The Devil Wears Prada 2". The title of the track is a direct reference to Runway magazine, around which the action of both films unfolds.

According to Stereogum, Runway appeals to the aesthetics of club pop of the early 1990s - "Supermodel" RuPaul and "Vogue" Madonna. This is a logical choice for a film about gloss and catwalk: both landmark songs are anthems about the right to occupy space and be visible. This is not Gaga's first appearance on the movie screen after "Joker: Madness for Two" — in 2025, she appeared in a cameo in the Netflix series "Wednesday". Runway is a full—fledged return to big cinema and big music at the same time.

On March 24, Medialogia presented on its website a Russian series rating consisting of the 100 most popular projects of the past year. The South Korean thriller "The Squid Game" took the first place with 42,861 points, the second place was taken by the American science fiction series "Stranger Things" (26,572 points), and the third place was taken by the Russian detective "Sled" (20,361 points).
