A decrease in employee productivity is more often associated not with personal qualities, but with the features of the management system. Roman Yerkhov, CEO of TuBi recruitment company, told Izvestia about this on April 7.

According to the expert, the laziness of employees in most cases is a manifestation of procrastination, burnout or low engagement. The reasons for postponing tasks are lack of clear goals, lack of feedback, and loss of meaning in the work.

He clarified that this is especially true for creative professions, where the result is difficult to quantify. In conditions of uncertainty, employee behavior can be perceived as a decrease in efficiency, although in fact it is related to the specifics of work processes.

"From the HR point of view, the key tool for motivating such employees is not increased control, but a well-established result management system. I would recommend using a combined motivation model," he said.

According to the expert, for qualified professionals, recognition of achievements and development opportunities often turn out to be more significant than one-time financial incentives. He clarified that the approach to employees should vary depending on their behavioral characteristics. Highly effective employees need autonomy and complex tasks, while employees prone to procrastination need clear deadlines, regular feedback, and a breakdown of tasks into stages.

In addition, Yerkhov noted the importance of preventing a decrease in engagement. According to him, regular surveys, understandable KPIs, a balanced workload and a culture of recognition make it possible to reduce staff turnover and increase productivity.

He also added that procrastination does not depend directly on the profession. For example, designers are more likely to be associated with perfectionism, while specialists in finance and management demonstrate higher discipline due to the specifics of their work.

"The issue is not the profession, but the quality of the management environment. When an employee understands the goals, feels the value of their work and receives fair feedback, the level of "laziness" decreases dramatically," he concluded.

On April 5, Valentina Romanova, HR Director of the Level Group, said that zoomers continue to change their attitude to work, now they have set a trend for "minimum-wage Mondays." The essence of the trend is to perform only the most basic and urgent tasks on the first day of the week, avoiding meetings and overloads.
