The scientist spoke about the turn of the rivers of Siberia to the southern regions
The transfer of Siberian river drains can solve the problems of water scarcity in the southern regions of Russia, the new regions and the Crimea. This was announced on April 7 by Mikhail Bolgov, Chief Researcher and Head of the Laboratory at the Institute of Water Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences.
"There are regions where industry and agriculture require more water than natural, local water bodies can provide. There is a request for an additional source," the expert explained in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the scientist, this problem is also relevant for Central Asia, which, having exhausted its water resources, may soon turn to the Russian Federation. Thus, Bolgov sees a theoretical solution to some of the problems with water supply in the reversal of river flows from more water-rich regions towards less water-supplied areas.
Bolgov said on April 4 that the Caspian Sea will not disappear in the foreseeable future, and its level has reached an equilibrium state after 20 years of decline. According to him, the sea level may fluctuate around an equilibrium state with a large forecast interval. A decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea has been observed since the mid-1990s. In 2025, it reached a historic low.
