The strikes on the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in Novorossiysk are part of Ukraine's overall strategy to damage any Russian-linked oil supplies. This was reported to Izvestia on April 6 by economist and political scientist Vasily Koltashov.

"Why is Ukraine acting this way? <...> It is part of an overall strategy to damage any supplies related to Russia in one way or another," the expert said.

He noted that Kiev had already attacked the Druzhba oil pipeline, was preparing sabotage against the Turkish Stream in Serbia, and was now attacking the CPC. Koltashov stressed that the main consumer of oil along this route is the European Union (EU), so Ukraine is hitting it first of all. Kazakhstan's economy will also suffer, and Western investors will suffer losses, the political scientist predicted.

According to Koltashov, Washington is currently not interested in rising prices on the world market, but the attacks on the CPC complicate the situation. In turn, Ukraine is trying to influence the United States and the EU by demanding continued financing and arms supplies, the expert stressed.

On April 6, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Kiev's attack on CPC facilities in Novorossiysk was aimed at causing economic damage to its shareholders from the United States and Kazakhstan. According to the ministry, as a result of drone strikes (UAVs), the pipeline of the outrigger mooring device and the discharge and filling berth were damaged. Four tanks with oil products caught fire due to the attack.

Maxim Chirkov, Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Policy and Economic Measurements at the GUU Institute of Economics and Finance, added that the attacks on CPC facilities harm not so much Russia as the countries that support Kiev. According to him, CPC brings profits not only to Russian companies, but also to energy companies from Kazakhstan, the UK and the USA. Kiev's aggressive actions against the oil transportation hub can only lead to a decrease in support for Ukraine among other countries, Chirkov believes.
