An elderly woman in Japan transferred 1.2 billion yen (about $7.5 million) to fraudsters. This was reported on April 6 by Ehime Asahi TV channel.

According to the TV channel, a woman over 80 years old believed the attackers, who introduced themselves as the police. From December 2025 to February 2026, she carried out eight transactions for the specified amount. It is noted that this is a record amount of damage for such cases.

In addition, the victim purchased 50 million yen worth of crypto assets from his account in December 2025. The fraud detection system recorded the movement of a large amount, and the financial institution sent a report to the police. However, the woman, following the instructions of the criminal group, remained silent, which did not prevent damage.

The scammers sent the victim a fake contract for the sale of land and buildings in advance. The woman explained to the bank staff that she was going to buy this property, so she did not suspect fraud.

In Japan, in September 2025, a fake astronaut lured money from a pensioner under the pretext of buying oxygen. An elderly woman from Japan became a victim of fraud, losing more than $ 6,700. The fraudster contacted the woman through social media and introduced himself as an astronaut who was allegedly on a spaceship and needed oxygen.
