Haddock has become the cheapest fish in Russia
Haddock became the cheapest fish on the Russian wholesale market in 2026. Since the beginning of the year, its value has decreased by 5.4%, and over the past 12 months — by 17.5%. This was announced on April 6 by German Zverev, President of the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE).
He specified that the price of fish reached 350 rubles per kg.
"As of March 30, wholesale prices for haddock have decreased by 5.4% since the beginning of the year, making it the cheapest fish in the first quarter," he told RIA Novosti.
According to the expert, the price dynamics were influenced by the peculiarities of fishing.
"The main factor was the predominance of smaller individuals, as well as an increase in the allowable catch volume," Zverev explained.
He added that the growth of haddock stocks is associated with successful generations of fish in recent years, unlike cod, whose resources remain in a depressed state. In 2026, the catch of haddock may reach about 67 thousand tons, which is almost 20% higher than last year.
In retail, the cost of frozen haddock in the central regions of Russia varies from 500 to 900 rubles per kg, depending on the seller and manufacturer.
