- The ISS cosmonauts addressed the Russians on the occasion of the beginning of Space Week
Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Mikaev, Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Andrey Fedyaev, who are currently aboard the International Space Station (ISS), congratulated the residents of the Russian Federation on the beginning of the First Russian Space Week, which will be held from April 6 to 12.
"This is a huge event not only for the rocket and space industry, but also for our entire country. The decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, on holding Space Week on an annual basis, starting this year, confirms the great attention that the state pays to the development of cosmonautics," Kud—Sverchkov began.
Mikaev also noted the symbolism of the situation: the first space week is held in the year of the 65th anniversary of the human flight beyond the Earth. Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin opened the way to the stars for mankind and forever inscribed his name in history.
"The future belongs to those who look up," the cosmonaut announced the slogan of the first space week.
As Fedyaev reminded, throughout the week, Russians will have access to many educational, cultural and memorable events. Thematic films about space, cosmonautics and Russia's role in the exploration of distant lands are also scheduled to be shown in theaters and cinemas.
On April 3, the Soyuz-2.1a medium-class launch vehicle launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome with a military satellite. The device was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region. The launch was carried out by a combat crew of the space forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
On the same day, the satellite was launched into orbit. In addition, stable telemetry communication is currently maintained with the spacecraft.
