The section of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline in Hungary from Serbia to Slovakia will be taken under the protection of the army. This was announced on April 5 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.

"This was a very crude attempt to attack our sovereignty, as an attack on our energy supply and energy security is at the same time an attack on our sovereignty. We will protect Hungary, protect the energy supply of Hungarian families and the economy. This requires Russian oil and Russian gas," Szijjarto said in a video posted on his Facebook page (banned in Russia, owned by Meta Corporation, recognized as extremist in Russia).

According to him, at a meeting of the Defense Council, the Prime Minister ordered to take the Hungarian section of the gas pipeline under military protection - from the Serbian-Hungarian border to the Hungarian-Slovak border.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister also said that he had held telephone talks with the Minister of Energy of Serbia, the Minister of Energy of Turkey and the Deputy Minister of Energy of Russia. The parties agreed on the need for more resolute physical protection of the pipeline, as attacks on it are becoming more frequent, and agreed to remain in close contact.

"This is a very serious attack against Hungary's sovereignty, but as before, we will defend Hungary," Szijjarto stressed.

On the same day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called an extraordinary meeting of the defense Council in connection with explosives found on the gas infrastructure connecting Hungary and Serbia. According to Orban, he has already called Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic about the incident.

On the same day, Vucic informed Orban about the discovery of explosives at the gas pipeline from Serbia to Hungary. The President stressed that he had informed Orban of the first results of the investigation by the military and police authorities and promised to inform the Hungarian side about the further progress of the investigation.
