The April race in Luzhniki attracted about 7 thousand participants.
The spring running season was officially launched in Moscow on April 5. About 7 thousand people, including professional athletes and amateurs, actively decided to start this day. The general start took place at the Luzhniki stadium, the route ran through the embankment and the Walk of Fame.
This morning, the Luzhniki Stadium became a place of attraction for thousands of athletes — the 13th April spring race started there, said Sergey Khaidarov, a correspondent for Izvestia. This year, an unprecedented number of participants gathered — about 7 thousand runners set off in pursuit of a new record, which totals 14 minutes and 15 seconds. In total, the participants had to run 5 km, which is not easy even for experienced runners.
While some were running, others were driving them forward — the fans also joined the event. For many, running is a family sport. For example, the Zhuravlevs met at the marathon, and now dad and son are supporting mom during an important start.
The running community of the capital counts dozens of sports enthusiasts and continues to grow. Half of all the runners who started today are participating in the race for the first time.
"The city is growing, the number of people running in the city is growing. The races always confirm this," said Dmitry Tarasov, General Director of the Moscow Marathon.
As it turned out at the finish, the record could not be beaten. Ivan Panferov became the winner of the race for the fifth time. The master of sports from Orel beat his opponent at the last moment.
This race is the start of the big running season in the capital. Next, the athletes will prepare for the Moscow Half Marathon, which will be held at the end of the month.
On March 1, the third international karate tournament "Cup of Nations" started in Moscow, which brought together the best athletes from 43 countries at once. The prestigious Kyokushin karate tournament "Cup of Nations" gathered 1,600 participants. In order to meet the two-day deadline, the competitions were held simultaneously on six tatami mats.
