FT has learned about Britain's plans to establish cooperation with the AI company Anthropic

The government of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is negotiating with the American AI company Anthropic to expand its presence in London amid a conflict with the United States over the use of technology in the military sphere. This was reported on April 5 by the Financial Times (FT) newspaper.

Earlier, the Pentagon called the company a "supply chain risk," and US President Donald Trump criticized Anthropic for refusing to use AI technology for military needs.

"Employees of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Technology have developed proposals for the company with headquarters in San Francisco, which range from an expansion of the office in London to a dual listing," the material says.

Anthropic has an office in London and about 200 employees, including 60 researchers. The British authorities offer the company a stable and innovative environment, support for scientific projects and a secure AI supply chain. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to develop national AI capabilities and reduce reliance on foreign developers.

For example, OpenAI has already expanded its offices in London, and Google is building a DeepMind research center in the UK capital worth about 1 billion pounds ($1.24 billion).

London's initiative is aimed at making the country one of the centers of AI development in Europe and able to independently develop technologies, including for science, medicine and industry, without relying solely on American companies.
