Lavrov announced plans to expand Russia's energy supplies to Egypt
Moscow and Cairo are discussing expanding supplies of Russian energy resources and agricultural products to Egypt. This was announced on April 3 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov following talks with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdel Ata.
"Considerable attention [at the talks] was paid to the prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of Russian agricultural products and energy resources," he said at a press conference.
Lavrov added that the parties discussed the development of joint flagship projects at the talks. The Ministers paid attention to the construction of the El-Dabaa nuclear power plant, in which the Rosatom State Corporation participates. Lavrov and Abdel Ata also discussed the creation of a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal area.
Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow and Cairo could discuss the creation of a grain and energy hub in Egypt. The Russian leader noted that the two countries have many good plans and a lot is being implemented. Putin added that he had instructed the Russian government to work out grain supplies to Egypt. He said that Russia had a good grain harvest and there would be no problems.
