The psychologist explained the harm of constant availability after work
The habit of staying in touch after the end of the working day is more often associated not with a real need, but with internal psychological attitudes. Olga Kushnareva, a family therapist and psychologist, told Izvestia about this on April 3.
"Constant availability increases stress, because the brain does not receive the signal "I'm safe, you can relax," and remains in standby mode," she said.
According to the expert, the desire to respond to messages at any time may be based on anxiety, fear of missing important information, or a desire to meet the expectations of the employer. As a result, a person does not have time to fully recover, which leads to the accumulation of fatigue, irritability and decreased concentration.
Kushnareva emphasized that it is important to distinguish between habit and addiction. If an employee can put down the phone without internal stress, it's about controlled behavior. However, a constant feeling of guilt or anxiety when trying to disconnect from work may indicate the formation of dependence on communication.
The expert added that this model gradually affects the mental state and personal life. According to her, a person can be close to loved ones, but remain psychologically involved in work processes, which worsens the quality of relationships and increases the risk of emotional burnout.
The psychologist noted that in order to solve the problem, it is important not only to limit work contacts outside the office, but also to understand the reasons for such behavior. In her opinion, an effective approach is to gradually build boundaries, reduce expectations of an instant response and form a stable habit of good rest.
Kushnareva emphasized that the ability to disconnect from work is an important factor of professional effectiveness and psychological stability in the long term.
Veronika Akhmetova, a psychologist and member of the Association for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, reported on March 11 that working with artificial intelligence (AI) can cause depression and burnout among employees if interaction with the system is not built correctly. According to her, frequent interaction with AI can lead to depression and emotional burnout for several reasons. First of all, this is due to the loss of the meaning of work.
