Bolshunov failed to reach the semi-finals of the sprint at the Cup of Russia

On April 3, three-time Olympic champion skier Alexander Bolshunov failed to reach the semifinals of the sprint freestyle race in the framework of the final of the Cup of Russia, held in Kirovsk.

To qualify for the semifinals, a skier had to come first or second in his race. Bolshunov took the third place with a score of 2 minutes 45.46 seconds. The athlete was 0.65 seconds behind Sergey Zabaluev, who became the first. Vyacheslav Mamichev became the second with a lag of 0.24 seconds.

Savely Korostelev, a participant in the 2026 Olympics, also failed to reach the sprint finals. He also finished third in his semifinal run with a time of 2 minutes 55.89 seconds.

Bolshunov won the 3 km freestyle ski race in the final of the Cup of Russia on March 28. The athlete covered the distance in 6 minutes and 24.5 seconds. The second place was taken by Egor Mitroshin, who was eight seconds behind.

Bolshunov won the gold medal of the Russian Speed Skating Championships on March 1. The competition was held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The winner's score was 3 minutes, 18.18 seconds. The silver award was taken by Egor Mitroshin, who was 0.10 seconds behind. Ivan Gorbunov rounded out the top three (+0.25).
