At the time of the Moscow–Chelyabinsk train derailment, many passengers were asleep. The victims of the incident told Izvestia about this on April 3.

According to them, when the carriages overturned, the passengers were thrown from their seats, many were badly hurt.

"I just hit my forehead <...> into the wall. Look at the healthy bump. And he hit his back," said one of the victims.

After the accident, the passengers organized themselves and helped each other, the man added.
