The Austrian authorities refused to allow the United States to use its airspace for strikes against Iran. This was reported on April 2 by the OE24 news portal with reference to the decision of the country's Ministry of Defense.

"The country has refused the United States permission to use its airspace for military operations against Iran. The Austrian neutrality law was cited as the reason. A spokesman for the ministry declined to provide details on the number of requests, saying only that there were "a certain number," the material says.

The Austrian Neutrality Law, in force since 1955, prohibits the use of its territory for military purposes by foreign States. This also applies to overflights of military aircraft, the authors of the material noted.

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth said on March 31 that US President Donald Trump would decide the future of NATO after the end of the conflict in Iran and would take into account the refusal of alliance members to help Washington. Hegseth noted that the United States faces obstacles and hesitations when it sends requests to NATO members for the deployment of bases and the possibility of overflight.
