Ballerina Svetlana Zakharova appointed Rector of MGAKH

Svetlana Zakharova, Russian ballerina, Prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, has been appointed rector of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography (MGAKH). This was announced on April 2 in the academy's Telegram channel.

"On April 2, 2026, by order of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Svetlana Zakharova was appointed rector of the Moscow State Academy of Choreography," the statement said.

It is specified that Zakharova has been acting rector since September 2024.

The first became the acting rector of the Moscow Art Theater Studio School, and the second received the Gorky Theater.

Zakharova spoke about the differences between the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky Theaters in an interview with Izvestia on March 31. According to her, the old building had a special aura.
