A man was killed as a result of a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake near the Indonesian island of Ternate in the province of North Maluku. This was reported on April 2 by the British newspaper The Guardian.

"One person died after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the island of Ternate in Indonesia, damaging buildings," the publication says.

It will be clarified that the epicenter of the tremors was 127 km from the coast, and the source was at a depth of 35 km.

In addition, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) added that an earthquake 163 km east of the city of Manado with a population of more than 450 thousand people occurred the day before at 22:48 local time (01:51 GMT). Due to the high power of the tremors, the regional early warning service InaTEWS issued an emergency message about the possibility of a tsunami.

The American warning system also confirmed the risk of dangerous waves from 0.3 to 1 m high on some parts of the Indonesian coast, as well as within a radius of thousands of kilometers from the epicenter, including the coastlines of the Philippines and Malaysia. Later, the warning about the risk of a tsunami was canceled.

An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 was recorded on March 30 off the coast of the island nation of Vanuatu in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. According to seismologists, the epicenter of the tremors was located 31 km northeast of the city of Luganville, where about 13.3 thousand people live. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 145 km.
