One of the favorite Soviet characters will return to the screens — a baby mammoth, who will once again go in search of his mother. Mark Edelstein is hanging by a thread from death over a precipice. And Ivan Yankovsky will prove that neither the language barrier nor the trials are an obstacle to love. The International Film Market and the Russian Film Business Forum are taking place in Moscow. On its site, future high-profile premieres were presented by the NMG Film Distribution company. See the Izvestia article about which films will compete for the audience's attention.

"Large-scale, epic and should appeal to the audience"

The Russian Film Business International Film Market and Forum has already established itself as one of the main business platforms for industry representatives. For several days, producers, directors, actors, and distributors gather at Cinema Park Mosfilm to talk about their future projects. On April 1, the floor was taken by the NMG Film Distribution company, which presented almost two dozen new projects of various genres to the full house.

The launch of the presentation was given by "Black Silk", the sequel to the high-profile Russian-Chinese action film "Red Silk", which successfully passed in the Russian and foreign box office. Filming of the new part started last month, and the public was able to exclusively see the first shots. Now the stakes are much higher: there is another charismatic hero on the screen — Maxim Matveev joined the cast as Richard Sorge, and the action scenes have become more epic. Part of the action takes place on a Japanese passenger liner, whose life-size deck was built in a pavilion. Both the ship and the actors have already been tested by the storm. Everything looked impressive on the screen.

— Each spillway is 4 tons of water. Stuntmen, actors, and props turn out to be under it. This is a real storm. The ship is rocking," producer Vadim Byrkin told Izvestia. — It's massive, epic and should appeal to the audience. There have been rehearsals on the ship for a month and a half — stunt stunts, acting tests. This is a very serious experience.

Just like "Red," "Black Silk" will partially be shot in China. The premiere is scheduled for March 2027.

Films about the Great Patriotic War

This is not the only movie in the company's portfolio, which is created by an international team. The work on the "Alpine Ballad" based on the story by Vasily Bykov is in full swing, they said at the presentation. Starring Ivan Yankovsky, Milos Bikovic, the most Russian Serb in Russian cinema, and Italian actress Denise Sardisco. The team, despite the language barrier, has already managed to work together — part of the filming took place in Serbia.

— I play in Russian, Deniz — in Italian, Milos — in Serbian, and something else in German and Italian, - Ivan Yankovsky said. — But that's the point of the movie. Words are not so important in the end. The characters understand each other at the level of feelings. At a time when everything is falling apart and there is no hope, and people are rallying together, no matter what nationality they are. The main thing is that another person needs a person. And it moves life forward.

The premiere is scheduled for 2027. The action will take place in 1943. Yankovsky will appear here as Ivan, a Soviet soldier who escapes from a death camp in the Italian Alps. Giulia, an Italian woman, becomes his traveling companion. For actress Denise Sardisko, this story is partly personal.

— When I read the project application, I thought about my family's history. My beloved great-grandmother was a partisan. During the German occupation of Italy, she carried bread to the partisans. It was a deadly risk," the actress said at the presentation.

The Alpine Ballad about love, courage and heroism has already been filmed once, in 1965 by Boris Stepanov, but today it does not lose its relevance.

— We believe that this film will become a manifesto of the anti-fascist movement, uniting all people who are fighting fascism today. Because, unfortunately, fascism is rearing its head in the world today, and we really hope that all reasonable people in the world will unite, including around this film, in the fight against fascism," said Svetlana Balanova, Director General of NMG, in an interview with Izvestia.

On the eve of May 9, the theme of the Great Patriotic War will also be heard in the military drama "Father" by Pavel Ivanov. This is the story of a Siberian hunter who goes to the front as a volunteer, hoping to find his missing son.

The Abyss with Eidelstein, the Russian karate kid and the return of the Baby Mammoth

Fans of thrillers about survival in extreme conditions, which domestic cinema does not indulge in, will see a "Chasm" on wide screens in May. Starring Mark Edelstein ("Anora"), Tina Stoilkovich ("Moscow does not believe in tears. Everything is just beginning"), Stepan Belozerov ("Ice 3"). Their characters skydive without preparation from a crashed plane. The slings get tangled, and the guys are suspended over a mountain precipice without communication and hope of rescue from the outside.

— They had to hang for many hours to verify what was happening, but in a safe format — not over a precipice, but over a chromakey floor against the background of a huge LED screen and a built-in rock. But they really hung for hours during filming, it was very difficult," said Alexander Andryushchenko, one of the producers of the project.

In the summer, the Karate Kid, Russia's answer to the iconic Karate Kid of 1984, will take over the baton. One of the main roles was played by Roman Kurtsyn, who also acted as one of the producers — the plot is partly based on his own biography.

— In the seventh grade, I transferred to a new school. I was beaten up. A girl stood up for me, and it was so humiliating that I decided to play sports and go into martial arts," he told Izvestia. — We wanted to make a proper motivational children's movie, like we had — we watched action movies, went out on the streets and started playing sports. I have a karate school in Yaroslavl. The guys who participated in the shooting are 70 of my children, who spent eight months preparing for this film.

Another big project and, it should be noted, an important one, because it is close to more than one generation of viewers, is "The Adventures of a Baby Mammoth. In search of Mom." Director Alexander Voitinsky, whose filmography includes "At the Behest of a Pike" and "Flint," undertook to make a full-length animated story about the hero of an eight-minute Soviet cartoon in 1981.

— We all remember the song, but we don't have any answers — what happened to the baby mammoth, how it ended up on the ice floe, where did mom go. It's a huge adventure, and it needs to be told. We took the classics as a starting point," he told Izvestia about his story, which will be released on October 1, 2026.

Russian viewers will traditionally spend the year with "Christmas trees". The 13th installment of a multi-year franchise is coming up. Her main surprise is a new hero performed by Sergey Burunov. The premiere will take place in December. And before that, the adventurous comedy "Santa Claus is Wanted" will be released in the fall.

The year 2027 in cinema will begin under the sign of wish fulfillment. On January 1, "Hottabych" with Fyodor Bondarchuk in the role of an ancient wizard will burst onto the screens on a magic carpet.
