In the first quarter of 2026, the Kalashnikov Concern increased production of shortened AK-12K assault rifles by 15% compared to the planned figures of the previous year. This was announced on April 1 by the company's press service.
"The product is in high demand in the area of the special military operation (SVO), its production volumes increased by 15% in the first quarter of the year relative to the production plan for 2025. The first batch was shipped to the customer in February 2026," the company's Telegram channel says.
The shortened 5.45 mm automatic rifle chambered for 5.45 x 39 mm is made in the Multicam color scheme. The weapon was developed by the company's design team and promptly put into mass production. It is noted that the model is equipped with a low-noise firing device and has improved ergonomic and operational characteristics. Despite its smaller size and weight, the product retains all the combat qualities of the basic AK-12 assault rifle.
Alan Lushnikov, CEO of the concern and a member of the Bureau of the Russian Engineering Union, stressed that the company's production facilities have been switched to round-the-clock operation. According to him, this is necessary to fully provide customers with weapons and fulfill obligations to strengthen the country's security. The head of the enterprise also noted the importance of concentrating the efforts of the workforce in the current conditions.
On February 24, Kalashnikov Concern announced the shipment to the customer of the first batch of the latest shortened AK-12K assault rifles in 2026 under a state contract. The concern recalled that the 5.45-millimeter AK-12K assault rifle was created by designers at the request of the assault and reconnaissance units of the Airborne Forces and put into planned production as soon as possible.
