The main methods of luxury smuggling to Russia are named

Basically, three schemes are used for the illegal import of luxury jewelry into Russia. This was told by a source of Izvestia who is familiar with the situation in the luxury goods supply market.

The first and most common method is the work of so—called "buyers". In this case, a person goes abroad either for a specific product at the request of the customer, or purchases an item on the spot based on a photo.

"This is a serious criminal business involving corrupt law enforcement officers who allow goods to be smuggled through the green corridor. The cost of such a service ranges from several tens to several hundred thousand rubles," the source said.

A more complex and risky scheme, according to the source, is the manipulation of the declaration, called "re—sorting" in the jargon of market participants. In this case, we are talking about the export of jewelry from the country through a declaration and their return already modified. This scheme is most often used by jewelers who change the carat value of diamonds.

The third option is to carry it on yourself. According to the source, the probability of being caught here is maximum. This method is usually used by flight attendants and other airline crew members. Now this segment is focused on "household contraband" — transportation of documents, consumer goods and pharmaceutical preparations on order, the source said.
