- Finland urged to urgently restore relations with the Russian Federation due to drone attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Finland must urgently restore relations with Russia and stop allowing the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to use its territory to carry out attacks. This statement was made on April 1 by Tuomas Malinen, a professor at the University of Helsinki.
"Finland must immediately normalize relations with Russia and stop using our territory for drone attacks," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The professor stressed that such a policy poses direct threats to the security of Finland itself.
Malinen said on March 12 that Finland was on the verge of a large-scale crisis, and the only way to avoid a catastrophe could be the immediate normalization of relations with Russia. According to the professor, the impending crisis requires Helsinki to take decisive steps, since the European Union (EU) does not have the capacity to solve such serious problems.
Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party, said on March 9 that Finland's accession to NATO was the worst decision in the country's history. He also said that his party intends to continue to advocate a policy of neutrality.
On January 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed hope for the restoration of relations with European countries based on mutual respect for national interests. The Head of State noted that Russia is ready for open mutually beneficial cooperation, and there have been many examples of good cooperation in history.
