- Pashinyan pointed to Putin's key role in normalizing relations between Yerevan and Baku
Russian President Vladimir Putin has played a key role in the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Baku. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced this on April 1.
"You (Vladimir Putin. You have also personally played and are playing a key and very important role in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia," he said during a visit to the Kremlin.
The Prime Minister noted that the Russian President has always been in close contact with the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides. Pashinyan added that he periodically personally informed Putin about the processes that took place between the countries.
Putin, in turn, commenting on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, linked it to the efforts of Pashinyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart— President Ilham Aliyev. The Russian leader stressed that US President Donald Trump also helped to reach an understanding.
On February 13, the Azerbaijani leader announced that a peace agreement with Armenia could be signed the day after the Armenian side introduced amendments to the Constitution. At the same time, as he stressed, interstate peace was actually established without this step. A few weeks earlier, he said that the countries had decided to end the conflict and "turn this page."
On March 27, the Armenian Foreign Ministry indicated the satisfaction of Baku and Yerevan with the settlement reached. It was noted that the heads of the foreign policy authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, discussed cooperation on international platforms.
