Nutritionist explained the reasons for cravings for sweets and flour
An obsessive desire to eat sweets or pastries, even after a heavy meal, may be a signal of an internal imbalance in the body. Irina Nikulina, internist, nutritionist, health coach, CEO of Boiron in Russia, told Izvestia about this on April 2.
According to her, fast carbohydrates attract the body as a source of instant energy, but their effect is short-lived and provokes new attacks of hunger.
"Excessive consumption of such products can have negative consequences. Sudden sugar spikes stimulate the pancreas to work intensively and can contribute to the development of insulin resistance. In addition, fast carbohydrates affect the intestinal microflora, creating favorable conditions for pathogenic bacteria, which can lead to digestive, skin, and immune system problems," Nikulina explained.
The nutritionist noted that increased cravings for sweets may be associated with a number of factors, including micronutrient deficiency, chronic stress, lack of sleep and irregular diet. Strict diets also play a role, which form psychological dependence and increase the risk of breakdowns.
According to the expert, a regular overabundance of fast carbohydrates can lead to weight gain, the development of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. At the same time, it is not necessary to completely exclude sweets, it is important to maintain a balance and control its amount in the diet.
To reduce cravings for sweets, Nikulina recommended building a balanced diet with sufficient amounts of proteins, fats and complex carbohydrates, normalize sleep patterns and reduce stress levels. It is also useful to look for healthier alternatives to the usual desserts and avoid strict prohibitions that can increase desire.
The expert stressed that if you have an obsessive craving for sweets, accompanied by a deterioration in your well-being, you should consult a doctor to diagnose and rule out metabolic disorders.
On February 28, Medical Xpress magazine explained the reason for overeating without feeling hungry. According to the publication, food-related signals can provoke excessive eating even in the absence of hunger. Experts emphasized that such habitual brain reactions act independently of conscious decisions.
