According to the investigation, the athlete struck two men during a verbal altercation on the summer veranda. One of the victims, Vladimir Kuzminov, was diagnosed with fractures of the lower jaw and the wall of the eye socket.

A criminal case was opened against the attacker under Part 1 of Article 112 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Intentional infliction of moderate harm to health, not dangerous to human life"). Online footage of the brawl appeared much later than the incident itself. According to one version, the football player could have been provoked to aggressive actions.

During the hearing at the judicial district of Justice of the Peace No. 418, it became known that Fyodor Smolov had entered into a settlement agreement with Vladimir Kuzminov. Varvara Knutova, the athlete's lawyer, said that the footballer had paid the victim 4 million rubles in damages. Oksana Chicherina, a representative of the injured party, confirmed the player's apology and filed a motion to dismiss the case.

The athlete himself confirmed in the courtroom that he was remorseful for what he had done. The court postponed the consideration of the reconciliation petition until April 3 to form the position of the state prosecution.

"I sincerely regret it, I definitely do not recommend anyone to do this. It will be an experience for me, a lesson. Unfortunately, this has happened, and there is no way to fix it. Once again, I want to apologize to the victim and his wife," Smolov said.

According to the Telegram channel 112, the athlete faced attempts at blackmail after the incident. According to him, unknown people contacted him under the guise of a victim and demanded money so that the video of the fight would not be published on the Internet. Smolov refused to pay the extortionists, noting that the messages stopped after he contacted Vladimir Kuzminov directly.

The football player mentioned the actions of fraudsters last year. He stressed that the attackers tried to cash in on the situation by using his status as a public figure, but their activity stopped immediately after establishing personal contact between the parties to the conflict.
