Kursk court upheld the verdict of ex-deputy of the Regional Duma Vasiliev.

The verdict handed down to Maxim Vasiliev, a former deputy of the Kursk Regional Duma, who squandered budget money allocated for the construction of fortifications in the region, was left unchanged. This was reported on April 1 in the regional press service of the united courts.

It is emphasized that the defendant, convicted in accordance with Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Embezzlement of funds on an especially large scale, using his official position, as part of an organized group") and sentenced to 5.5 years in prison with a fine of 800 thousand rubles, disagreed with the "excessive severity" of his punishments.

He asked for a change in the measure of restraint, taking into account his four-month service as a stormtrooper in the area of a special military operation (SVO). The former MP also called on the court to exclude the indication of an aggravating circumstance.

"The Kursk Regional Court did not find any grounds for canceling or changing the verdict of guilty, leaving it unchanged," the department said in a message on the MAX messenger.

The court added that a cassation appeal could be filed in this case. The procedure, as it was added in the statement, was carried out on appeal.

Vasiliev reported on November 17 last year that he had colluded with ex-deputy Governor Alexei Dedov, who was also detained. A few weeks earlier, on November 1, the press service of the courts of the Kursk region reported on November 1 that the head of the construction company "Siemi" Vitaly Singovsky, who had previously testified in the investigation of the case of the construction of defensive structures in the region, was sentenced to four years in a penal colony for embezzlement of funds.
