Land Rover and Chery show new Freelander SUV
The Land Rover Freelander model was discontinued in 2015, but the Chinese joint venture Jaguar Land Rover and Chery revived this name as an independent brand. The presentation of the first model in China took place on March 31, according to Carscoops.
The new Freelander debuted as a concept car called Concept 97 in honor of the year of the original Freelander's debut. The design of the model was developed by teams from the UK and China, the exterior of the model is influenced by the SUV of the first generation. The concept is equipped with doors that open against the flow of traffic, however, a more traditional solution is expected in the production version.
The layout of the Freelander cabin is a six-seat three-row. The cabin has a wide display that stretches from rack to rack, and a large central screen of the media system. A pull-out ceiling display is provided for second-row passengers. The SUV is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip and Huawei Qiankun ADS 4.1 intelligent driving system with an 896-line lidar.
Jaguar Land Rover and Chery representatives said that six production models are planned to be produced under the Freelander brand over the next five years. First they will appear in China, and then they will enter the global market. The cars will be produced at a joint venture in Changshu, China, where they will be replaced on the assembly line by the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque. The SUVs are expected to be built on the Chery platform and will be offered with both hybrid and all-electric powertrains.
Earlier that day, the Changan CS75 Pro seven-seat crossover was introduced in Russia. It will be offered in Russia with a Blue Core family engine with a capacity of 181 hp (280 Nm). The car has a three-row layout, the second row seats are equipped with longitudinal adjustment.
