The expert assessed the possibility of mobilizing women in Ukraine

The shortage of people has become the main problem of the Ukrainian army, the authorities are taking a variety of measures to replenish the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was stated by political analyst Alexander Semchenko in an interview with Izvestia.

In these conditions, in his opinion, the mobilization of women is quite real. And in previous years, the necessary legislative framework was created for this.

Ukraine may resort to other ways to replenish the ranks of the army, the expert did not rule out. For example, change the draft age for men.

"Now the upper limit is at the level of 60 years, it can be raised to 63 or 65. The lower limit is 25 years, it can be lowered to 21 or 18 years. A separate area of work will be the return of men from other countries, including through putting them on the Interpol wanted list," the source said.

On March 29, sources in Russian law enforcement agencies told the TASS news agency that the mobilization of the female half of the population was being prepared in Ukraine. It was noted that social advertising is also appearing in the country with a corresponding appeal to Ukrainians to participate in the defense of the country.

At the same time, back in October 2025, the head of the Council of reservists of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ivan Tymochko, stated that Ukrainian women needed to stop "hiding behind men" and join the Armed Forces, otherwise society would begin to advocate for the mobilization of women. According to him, there are many professions for women in the army that are not related to combat operations.
