The US Department of Defense has relocated a squadron of 12 A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft to Lakenheath Air Base in the UK for further deployment to the Middle East. This was announced on March 31 by the profile aviation resource Military Air Tracking Alliance (MATA) on its page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

The combat vehicles arrived in Europe from the Pease National Guard Base in New Hampshire. The safety and refueling of aircraft during the flight across the Atlantic Ocean was provided by American tankers.

The agency has not yet disclosed the exact location of the squadron's future base. A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft are designed for fire support of ground units and the elimination of attack drones. The vehicles are equipped with seven-barrel 30 mm cannons, as well as Sidewinder and APKWS II laser-guided missiles.

Currently, the American tactical aviation group in the Middle East includes about 250 combat units. The largest concentration of forces was recorded in Jordan at the Muwaffaq Salti base. There are F-35A, F-15E, F-16 fighters and attack aircraft units stationed there. In addition, US Air Force aircraft are stationed in Saudi Arabia at the Prince Sultan facility and at the Israeli Air Force base.
