The Russian government is introducing an experimental legal regime for three years to ensure the safety of navigation along the Northern Sea Route using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was announced on March 31 by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin.

"The government will approve an experimental legal regime. It will become effective within three years and will extend to the territory of the Arctic zone," he said at an operational meeting.

According to the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, modern digital innovations, including radar and optoelectronic ice reconnaissance systems, will be actively used to work in severe weather conditions in the Arctic.

Specialized monitoring systems are planned to be installed on unmanned aircraft, which will allow for rapid exploration of the water area and obtaining high-resolution images.

Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev said on March 25 that the Russian Navy ensures the safety of navigation, in particular ships carrying cargo in the interests of the country. In addition, port captains can request the escort of Russian ships by mobile firing groups.
