Winter rapeseed crops in Stavropol region are threatened by bacteriosis
Winter rapeseed crops in the Stavropol Territory were infected with bacteriosis. This may affect the future harvest, the press service of the regional branch of the Rosselkhoznadzor reported on Monday, March 30.
Inspectors identified infected fields during phytomonitoring in farms of the second and third zones. A total of 20 thousand hectares were surveyed. The conclusions were disappointing.
According to the institution, the stock of infections in the fields is high and the weather contributed to their intensification. Signs of bacteriosis are recorded even on the youngest apical leaflets, which requires the attention of farmers.
The disease develops in the root system and affects the plant throughout the growing season. Cavities with a brown core appear inside the root and near the root neck. Diseased parts of plants soften, wither, turn yellow and subsequently die.
Bacteriosis is also dangerous because it affects the immune system and weakens resistance to fungal diseases. Crops become sparse, and the number of flowers and pods decreases. The disease is difficult to fight.
According to experts, the yield of oilseeds and rapeseed greens may decrease by 30-40% due to bacteriosis. With mass distribution, losses can reach up to 60-70%, writes IA StavropolMedia.
The regional Rosselkhoznadzor has increased monitoring of rapeseed crops. Operational information will be provided to farmers. There are no registered chemical preparations for combating bacteriosis, but treatment with biological preparations shows good effectiveness.
Earlier it was reported that 5.7 million rubles will be allocated for the development of nurseries in Stavropol in 2026. Most of the funds will be used to modernize the Kalaus forestry.
