Rosstandart approves GOST for license plates for electric scooters

Rosstandart has approved and put into effect an amendment to GOST, which establishes the types and sizes of state registration marks (GRZ). It contains a new type of room designed for personal mobility equipment (SIM), including electric scooters. This was reported by Kommersant on March 30.

The new number type is listed as 4B. According to GOST, it is metal, two-line, with three letters on top, two digits and the region code at the bottom, measuring 137 by 137 mm. One number should be in the back, the other in the front. Unlike the mandatory tricolor on regular rectangular license plates, the image of the national flag on the license plates for the SIM will be optional.

According to Rosstandart, the amendment was introduced at the initiative of the technical Committee for standardization "Road Safety" (operating on the basis of the Scientific Center for Road Safety of the Ministry of Internal Affairs) and creates a "regulatory and technical basis" for future registration rules.

The Moscow Department of Transport, which participated in the development of amendments to GOST, explained that, as practice has shown, cameras successfully recognize such signs, so it becomes easier to control order on the streets. Deptrans shared with the Ministry of Internal Affairs the experience of how such signs should look so that they are convenient to use in a large city, the note says.

According to the publication, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Transport plan to oblige the owners of all SIM cards to register in a single electronic register, for which they will need to pay a state fee. The number of private SIM cards in Russia is estimated at 1.2 million units.
