The number of US military personnel currently stationed in the Middle East region has exceeded 50,000. This was reported on March 29 by The New York Times (NYT).

"The arrival of 2.5 thousand Marines and another 2.5 thousand sailors keeps the number of American troops in the Middle East region at more than 50 thousand people — about 10 thousand more than usual," the publication says.
