American figure skater Ilya Malinin became a three-time world champion
American Ilya Malinin became a three-time world figure skating champion on March 28. The competition was held in Prague.
Malinin scored 329.40 points. Japan's Yuma Kagiyama won silver with 306.67 points, while his compatriot Shun Sato took bronze (288.54).
On March 26, the American figure skater became the best in the short program at the World Championships. Then the Frenchman Adam Xiao Him Fa took the second place, and the Estonian Alexander Selevko took the third.
On February 13, the figure skater was defeated in the free skate at the Olympic Games in Italy, scoring 156.33 points. During the rental, the athlete made several falls. In total, Malinin managed to score 264.49 points, he took the eighth final place.
Malinin himself stated that the reason for the failure in the free program at the Olympics was his excessive confidence. He added that the result could also be influenced by a psychological condition.
