- Rospotrebnadzor has ruled out the risk of the appearance of "mutant ticks" in the middle zone of the Russian Federation
There is no risk that African ticks of the genus Hyalomma, better known as "mutant ticks", will take root in central Russia. This was announced on March 28 by the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, commenting on reports of their spread across southern Russia.
"Nothing unusual happened. Our experts, experts, and scientists say that there is absolutely no risk that these ticks will take root in the middle zone. A stable temperature will put everything in its place," she told journalist Alexander Yunashev.
According to her, additional vaccinations are not required in this region. Popova reminded that due to the early and warm spring, when going out into nature, protective measures should be observed: wear closed clothes, take care of children and animals, and after a walk, examine yourself and them.
On March 19, biologist Dmitry Safonov, speaking about the spread of mutant ticks in the Volgograd, Rostov and Astrakhan regions, described their appearance. According to him, the legs of arachnids, also found in Stavropol, Krasnodar Territory, Kalmykia and the republics of the Caucasus, are covered with stripes, which is why they are also called zebras. In addition, representatives of the Hyalomma species are significantly larger than their ordinary relatives.
