- The Ministry of Internal Affairs told about the spread of fake P2P transactions for the sale of cryptocurrencies
Fraudsters spread fake P2P transactions for the sale and purchase of cryptocurrencies or goods in messengers in order to steal Russian funds. This was announced on March 28 by the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"Fake P2P transactions for the sale and purchase of cryptocurrencies or goods inside instant messaging facilities are also common," TASS quoted the agency as saying.
The Interior Ministry explained that the scammers act as intermediaries. They create fake exchange support chats, fake SMS messages about deposits, or use double accounts to deceive. The department stressed that the final stage is the transfer of funds or cryptocurrencies to fraudsters, in return the victim receives nothing.
On March 27, the head of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, Sergei Leonov, spoke about a new scheme of fraudsters with calls allegedly from employees of the polyclinic. He said that the scammers offer, under the pretext of undergoing a medical examination or updating documents, to find out the victim's SNILS and passport data.
The Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in St. Petersburg reported on March 24 that cases of theft of Telegram accounts have become more frequent. The department reported that the attackers create a secret chat with the victim and, under the guise of a support employee, extract account information.
