The German trade union Verdi has reached an agreement with more than 20,000 employees of Lufthansa's ground divisions on a salary increase, Reuters reported on March 27.

According to the agreement, the base salary of ground staff will be increased by a total of 4.65% in two stages: during 2026, the salary will be increased by 2.2%, and from March 1, 2027, by another 2.4%, the publication says.

In recent years, strikes in Germany have become quite common. Basically, representatives of trade unions of different professions talk about workers' dissatisfaction with income levels and working conditions. So, in March 2025, employees of Berlin airport went on strike, as a result of which almost 500 flights were canceled. The workers demanded an 8% salary increase or €350, as well as an increase in bonuses and additional vacation time, writes Reuters.

In addition, on January 20, the German trade union Verdi called on employees of the German road services to go on warning strikes throughout the country. It was clarified that the union also demanded that the German authorities raise the salaries of road workers and review their working conditions.

In February, it was reported that about 800 Lufthansa flights were canceled in Germany due to a strike by airline employees. As suggested by Reuters, strikes may cause the cancellation of more than 460 flights, which will affect almost 70 thousand passengers.

In the same month, major strikes by public transport workers took place in Germany. In total, about 100,000 workers from 150 transport companies participated in the strikes.
