Court sentenced serial strangler Filkin to 22 years in prison
The Moscow Regional Court has sentenced serial robber and strangler of retired women Yuri Filkin to 22 years in prison. This was reported on March 27 by a correspondent of Izvestia.
It is noted that the man will spend the first eight years in prison, and then he will go to serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony. The court estimated the damage caused to the victims at over 880 thousand rubles.
According to the prosecution, Filkin operated in the Moscow region from 2020 to 2022 and committed robberies with illegal entry into the homes of 10 elderly women. He sneaked into the homes of lonely retired women, intimidated and robbed them. Filkin applied suffocating techniques to some victims — as a result, two women died, three more managed to survive.
On March 11, serial killer Alexander Pichushkin, who was sentenced to life in prison and known as the "Bitsevsky maniac," filed a cassation appeal against court decisions that refused to transfer him from the Polar Owl colony to an institution closer to Moscow. According to him, his mother and sister cannot visit him because of the remoteness of the correctional facility.
Natalia Guskova, the mother of the "Bitsevsky maniac," announced on April 17 last year that her son was in poor condition in prison. According to her, he is on the verge of death due to a severe illness.
