- The Ministry of Internal Affairs recalled the three main rules of protection against telephone fraud
On March 27, Irina Volk, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, recalled the basic rules of protection against telephone fraudsters, publishing relevant recommendations.
"No matter who a stranger introduces himself on the phone (an employee of your clinic, social fund, bank, law enforcement agencies or Public Services), just hang up the phone. Don't waste your time and nerves on questionable conversations with strangers," she said.
According to the representative of the department, attackers often use specific pretexts for deception, such as proposals for an urgent replacement of an electronic medical policy or notifications about a loan allegedly issued in the name of a citizen. Suspicion should also be aroused by calls with clarifications under the SIM card agreement or questions about recording through EMIAS for medical examination. Wolf stressed that such phrases are a direct signal to hang up the phone.
Volk emphasized the inadmissibility of transferring funds to so-called "secure accounts," explaining that such accounts do not actually exist. She urged citizens to be vigilant to preserve their own savings.
In addition, the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs pointed out the categorical prohibition on transmitting codes from SMS messages to third parties. Volk added that even if the requests sound convincing, each transmitted code gives fraudsters access to the owner's confidential information.
On the same day, RIA Novosti reported on a new fraud scheme under the pretext of updating medical card data to gain access to a personal account on the Gosuslugi portal. It is noted that at the first stage, the attacker contacts the potential victim in a messenger, posing as a nurse from a polyclinic.
