It became known about a new fraudulent scheme with the updating of medical records
Fraudsters have started using a new two-step scheme to deceive Russians under the pretext of updating medical card data to gain access to their personal account on the Gosuslugi portal. This was reported by RIA Novosti on March 27.
At the first stage, the attacker contacts the potential victim in a messenger, posing as a nurse from the clinic. Under the guise of updating the medical record, the scammer requests the parameters of the physical condition — height and weight, and is also interested in the presence of health complaints. This stage is used exclusively for establishing a trusting contact. After the survey, the "employee" warns about an upcoming call and asks to forward the caller's phone number to confirm the data.
The second stage involves a call on behalf of a representative of Gosuslug. The fake operator informs the user about an allegedly recorded attempt to gain unauthorized access to the account. To "protect" the profile, fraudsters convince the citizen to dictate the code from an SMS message.
As soon as the victim names a combination of numbers, criminals get full access to personal data in their personal account.
Ilya Zuev, Vice President for Information Security at MTS Bank, announced on March 25 that hackers had begun actively using bots to attack Russians, creating bot farms and using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to test all functions of banking applications around the clock in search of logic errors.
